Book Signing: Scary School (Book Review Included)

This October, I went to my local Barnes and Noble for a book signing, reading, and costume contest.

Me and the Author

First, there were only two kids including me. The author, Derek the Ghost, did a choose your own adventure story. Both of us survived one day at scary school! That is very hard! Next, about 5 more kids came. He read a very scary chapter called, Dr. Dragonbreath's rules. Then, he took some questions. I asked a few. There is a secret chapter in the first book, so I asked him, " Is there going to be a secret chapter in the next book?". He said there are going to be a few in the next book. After that, he signed our copies of Scary School. Here is what he wrote to me:

Next, there was a costume contest. If you go to the top of this post you can see my costume. The only other person who competed didn't know about the costume contest, but he was in his basketball uniform. I won because of my helmet! Each of us got a handful of candy. Also, I got a free book because I won!

The book I won

He gave everyone a T-shirt.

My handful of candy. (I already ate two) Mmm...

My new book signed

Here is a book review I wrote:

The book Scary School is about the first school ever that combines regular kids and monster kids. It is told by the point of view of Derek the Ghost. He is an amazing author! The story is mostly about the fifth grade classes. The two fifth grade teachers are Ms. Fang, an 850 year old vampire, and Dr. Dragonbreath, who ate 28 of his 30 students in the first 12 minutes of school. Being dead is no excuse for being dead at Scary School because they have the best Nurse ever, Nurse Hairymoles. She can bring anyone back to life, but she makes it so they are very badly sick the next day. You do not want to go to detention because you have to spend it with Mrs T, who is a hungry T-Rex who might eat you before recess. I think you should get and read this book A.S.A.P.

Poll Competition Two

The second poll competition is starting. It will last a few months. There will probably be five polls in the first round. As of now, four of the polls in the first round will have six posts to choose from, and one poll will have seven posts to choose from. The winning post in each poll will go to the championship. If there is a tie, both winning posts will go to the championship. Here is the first poll:

Student Blogging Challenge: Challenge 6: Freerice

This week's main idea is global issues. When I started third grade I started playing Freerice. I forgot my account, so I made a new one. If you want to be friends, I am Bigjman9. You can play in groups. I am in the group Student Blogging Challenge.

You answer questions about things like math and grammar. For each answer you get correct, you donate 10 grains of rice to homeless people to try to end hunger. The best part is, it's free! You move up levels. The higher the level, the harder the question. My best category in the Freerice game is English grammar. I hope people join because of reading my post! Freerice is a great way to try to end hunger!

Have you ever played Freerice?

After reading my post, are you going to start playing Freerice?

Santa Anita

A couple weeks ago, I went to the horse races at Santa Anita. Some people say it is the most beautiful race track in the U.S.A. I get why they say that now because it had lots of mountains and trees around it. I went with my dad and my sister. It was a special day there because kids got in for free and there were over seventy food trucks.

We stayed for 6 races. I was very surprised in the last race because the favorite to win, Blind Luck, got last place. Before one of the races, I asked my dad, "Why does an ambulance Circle the track?", and he said,  " In case a horse gets hurt.". That race, a horse got hurt!

In the last race my dad took some pictures. Here is one of them:

This is a horse named Zazu:

Blogs I Recommend

I got the idea of writing a post about blogs I recommend from my new blogging buddy, Ethan.

The first blog I recommend is Mrs. Yollis' Classroom Blog.

I like how she does interesting, but educational posts. Also, I like seeing what her class is learning that I learned last year as a student in her class.

Next, I would like to recommend Ben's Next Stop.

I like looking at where he has been going. I also like seeing the places he went to that I've been before and have never visited before.

She publishes about her family events, and things that are open to the public. I like that combination of posts!

The next blog I recommend is Ethan's Blog!

His posts are very interesting and he makes them very fun to read. I hope you leave him a comment!

I hope you go on Hannah's Hacienda.

She does posts about trips that her family goes on, and about right here in our hometown.

(Tip: Each blog's name is a link. If you click on it, it will bring you to that blog!)

I hope that you look at each one of these blogs. Maybe you will leave a comment on their blog! I'm sure they would love that.

Did you check out these blogs?

Which ones?

What blog should I go on next?

Student Blogging Challenge: Challenge 2

Disneyland Park Logo.svg

I joined the Student Blogging Challenge. The Student Blogging Challenge is a great way to meet other bloggers. I did it last year when I was in Mrs. Yollis' class. There are different challenges every week. You choose from around ten different challenges. Also, you can choose as many to do as you want.

This week's challenges focus on the place you live. I'm going to tell about a tourist attraction in California.

A place where you would want to visit if you went to California is Disneyland. Disneyland officially opened on July 18, 1955. There was an event the day before. It was supposed to be invitation only, but because of counterfeit tickets, instead of 11,000 people there was 28,154 people! I've been there many times because my dad works for Disney.

Disneyland is located in Anaheim, California. In 2001, they added California Adventure. That has rides like Monsters Inc. and Toy Story Mania. A couple years ago they added a show called the World of Color. It is where water squirts up and creates pictures from Disney and Pixar movies. That is my favorite show.

If you would like to learn more about Disneyland, follow this link: Wikipedia

Champion: Lakers vs. Warriors

A few months ago there was a poll competition. You had ten days to vote for the winner, and the results are in. Remember, all four of these are winners because each of them either won a poll or tied a poll, but only one can become champion. I hope you are happy with who you voted for!

In a three way tie for second place, 20% of the poll, and 3 votes: Mr. CA plays basketball, Disney Wonder, and New House and New School!

And the winner is, Lakers vs. Warriors. Lakers vs. Warriors had 6 votes and 40% of the poll. I think the reason besides it being a great post that made it win was that most people who know about my blog live in L.A, so they like the Lakers.

Personally, I liked Disney Wonder because it was very fun just to relax for 10 days in a row. No one else can say that though unless you were on it with me. I also liked it because Mr. CA was in it.

There will be another poll competition starting any time from November, 2011-January, 2012. I hope you enjoyed this poll competition and will join in on the next one!

What is it like in the desert?

Last spring break, I got to see what life is like in the desert. A lot of people think that there are many cactus in the desert, but I was there for two days, and I only saw about fifty cactus. At the bottom you will be able to see a picture of a very pretty cactus.

The desert that I went to is called Palm Springs. I went there to visit my grandparents while my parents went to a hotel. The place where my grandparents live is very interesting because to live there you need to be a senior citizen. Right when I got there, we saw my grandma and grandpa's rental house because they have only lived there for a few months, and they moved into their house on a Tuesday, but I left at about noon on a Monday. Then, we saw their new house. Next, we went went swimming. We had to leave a little bit before three because kids where only allowed to be in the community pool until three. After going swimming, we went to the movies. We saw Kung Fu Panda 2. Then, we went to have ice cream for dinner. I had cookies and cream ice cream. Next, I went to bed.

The next day, we went to McDonalds for breakfast. I had a McGriddle with bacon, egg, cheese and the bread was French toast with syrup made inside of it. Next, we went to a place where you can buy things and there are a lot of vendors set up. It is called a flee market. Sadly, they closed right when we got there. Then, we went to the dollar store. I got a box of 48 crayons, 200 index cards, 36 fake coins, 10 tootsie roll pops, and something else. After the dollar store, we went swimming. Next, we went putting on a golf course. It was very fun and my first time putting in my life, I think. Then, we went to dinner at Stuffed Pizza. The pasta was very good. After Stuffed Pizza, we went back to the putting course. I started a game with my sister, but she went back to my grandma, away from the golf course after the seventh hole. Then, I went to sleep.

On my final day, we went out for breakfast. My sister and I each ordered chocolate chip pancakes with Ice Cream. Next, we went golfing. It was a putting course, and not a real golfing course. Each hole was Par 3. That means that if you get three it does not affect your score, if you get two you get -1, and if you get four you get +1. I beat my sister +31 to +82. Sadly, we had to leave after that. I hope that we go back to the desert soon.

Here is a picture of a cactus I saw in Palm Springs:

1,000 Visitors!

On June 18, 2011, I got to 1,000 visitors on my blog! It is amazing because I have had visitors from all  around the world. For example, I have blogging friends from right here in my hometown all the way to Australia! When I got up, and looked at my clustr maps gadget I had to refresh the page to believe what I was seeing.

It is crazy that this is my 22nd post! I remember when I got 50 comments on my welcome post! That was amazing! My point is that if you try hard you will succeed (like me getting 1,000 visitors). I hope that everyone who has read this post learned a lesson from it.

Do you have over 1,000 visitors on your blog?

If so, what is the exact number of visitors?

Amazing! 200 comments!

On Wednesday, June 1, I got to 200 comments on my blog because of my comment! Me and my dad were commenting, and after each of us left two comments on my blog in about fifteen minutes I was at 200. I think there have been over fifty people who have ever commented on my blog. Thanks to all of you. I couldn't of done it without you!
I couldn't figure out how to take a screen shot on my computer, so here is my comment rewritten:
@ Dad,
I think you should get a blog mascot for your blog. Also, I do not even remember who the Greggalopes are, so how would I remember where we saw them play? Who were they? Where did we see them play?
From,
Jaden

Apparently, a Greggalope is an animal that my parents made up when we were at Animal Kingdom, Disney World, Florida, U.S.A. They did not know what an animal that looks like an antelope was called when I asked, so they called it a Greggalope.
Do you like my comment?
How do you like my blog?
Did you know what Greggalopes were before this post?
